The Alexander Technique

The Alexander Technique is a century old method used to generate awareness about they way that we use our bodies and recognize habits that lead to mis-use of the body. The Alexander Technique was developed by F.M. Alexander who was an Australian Shakespearean actor.
During his career, Alexander lost his voice. He sought the aid of doctors and specialists, but none of them were able to determine what happened to his voice. The brilliance of Alexander was his ability to recognize that it must have been something that he was doing to himself that led to his vocal troubles. He studied himself for years and realized how he was contorting his body while performing. He was able to recognize his habits and subsequently restored his voice. Thus began the development of the Alexander Technique.
